Sumitra Yerramilli (“Sumi”) is the Principal Solicitor and Founder of ASKY International Lawyers, bringing over 15 years of legal experience spanning both India and Australia. She began her legal journey in India in 2010 and went on to become a qualified solicitor in Victoria, Australia, where she now leads a dynamic legal practice based in Docklands. Her depth of knowledge, international perspective, and unwavering commitment to client service form the backbone of the firm’s success.
With a broad practice that includes family law, criminal law, civil litigation, property law, Wills and Estate, commercial and corporate law, Sumitra is widely respected for her ability to deliver clear, practical advice and effective representation across diverse legal issues. Her approach is defined by compassion, strategic thinking, and a strong sense of justice – qualities that her clients consistently appreciate and rely on.
Sumitra Yerramilli’s academic journey spans two continents and reflects her passion for law, people, and lifelong learning. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University (Australia), where she refined her legal thinking in the Australian legal system and developed a passion for community-focused law. But her legal roots go back even further — to India, where she completed a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law from Osmania University, exploring complex global issues such as human rights, treaties, cross-border conflicts, and global governance. This advanced degree shaped her understanding of how international legal systems interact — a perspective she still draws on when helping migrant and multicultural clients in Australia.
Understanding the digital world’s growing impact on legal systems, Sumi also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Laws, equipping her early on with the tools to address internet-based privacy, e-commerce disputes, and online legal frameworks — skills increasingly vital in today’s legal landscape. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Income Tax) and a Diploma in Commercial and Computer Practice, blending legal insight with financial and business acumen — an asset in property law, business contracts, and commercial litigation.
After moving to Australia, Sumitra completed a Bachelor of Laws at Victoria University, qualifying as a solicitor in Victoria. This Australian law degree allowed her to bridge her international training with local legal practice, and gain hands-on knowledge of the Australian court system, legal ethics, and client care.
Today, Sumi’s diverse academic background is more than just a list of qualifications — it’s a reflection of her global mindset, adaptability, and commitment to offering well-rounded, informed legal guidance to clients from all walks of life.
Sumi is known for her calm and reassuring presence; she is deeply committed to making legal services accessible and inclusive. She takes the time to listen, ensures her clients understand their rights and options, and works tirelessly to achieve fair outcomes. Her focus is always on integrity, transparency, and client care.
Sumi founded ASKY International Lawyers to create a space where diversity is celebrated, and justice is approached with empathy and excellence. Under her leadership, the firm champions inclusive legal practice, providing support to individuals and families from multicultural and migrant communities, and ensuring every client feels seen, heard, and empowered.
Outside the courtroom, Sumi is a proud mother, a loving wife, and a true animal lover. She enjoys gardening, music, and drawing in her downtime, and has even learned the Indian classical instrument, the Veena. Sumi is a deeply spiritual person who values peace, compassion, and inner growth.
For Sumi, home is not just a place — it's a feeling. She believes in treating family as friends, and friends as family, a value that extends into her professional life. Clients often describe her as approachable, comforting, and trustworthy — someone who truly listens and stands by them like a friend would.
This beautiful balance of professional sharpness and personal softness is what makes Sumitra not only an exceptional solicitor, but also someone people genuinely enjoy working with.
